When a couple has been in a relationship for years, those around them constantly ask, “When are you going to the wedding?”. This question causes panic especially in couples who have no answer to it. However, with the passage of time, in traditional societies, there is often a growing public pressure for a couple to marry.

One Zambian woman even decided to try long enough for an engagement ring and sued her boyfriend for not shaking hands after 8 years of relationship. This was reported by the Kenyan edition Tuko.

Gertrude Ngoma, 26, and Herbert Salalick, 28, have been dating for eight years. In the end, as it turned out, Herbert Ngoma promised to marry him. However, tired of waiting for a fabulous day, Gertrude took the road to court instead of his girlfriend’s marriage house and demanded that he make plans for the future. The matter is aggravated by the fact that Gertrude and Herbert already have children, although Ngoma still lives with her parents and believes that her son’s father is not taking their relationship and future seriously.

“It was never serious, that’s why you decided to take me to court – because I deserve to know about our future,” Gertrude said.

In defense, Herbert says she does not yet have enough finances to pay for the wedding, though she still pays alimony to her son. However, the man adds that one of the reasons for the marital ruin is the lack of attention from Gertrude.

Surprisingly, a Zambian court visited the couple from the courtroom with their case and told them that since they are not married, they will have to settle without a court.
